When Bifold Doors Won’t Cooperate: A Handywoman’s Fix
Have you ever started a home improvement project, only to realize halfway through that it’s more complicated than it seemed? One of my recent clients had exactly that experience when trying to replace their bifold closet doors.
When I arrived, I found that only half of the new doors were installed—and not correctly. After assessing and talking with the client, we decided the best solution was to purchase new hardware and doors, cutting them to fit properly. Once installed, they opened and closed smoothly—no more frustration! The other half were still in the box, waiting for someone to figure them out.
The Fix: Proper Installation Makes All the Difference
Bifold doors can be tricky because they require precise measurements and alignment to function smoothly. After assessing the situation, I removed the improperly hung doors, checked the tracks, and made sure everything was level before installing the remaining ones.
The result? Two closets that now open and close effortlessly, instead of doors that scraped, stuck, or refused to stay in place.
A Personal Touch: DIY Painting
One thing I love about working with homeowners is that everyone has their own vision for their space. In this case, my client wanted to handle the painting themselves—a great way to personalize their home while keeping costs down. Once the doors were installed correctly, they could focus on adding their perfect color and finishing touches.
