Rotting Shingles NO MORE!
When it comes to home maintenance, some issues demand immediate attention—and rotting cedar shingle siding is one of them. Recently, I had the opportunity to replace a small section of a client’s cedar siding that had succumbed to rot. Though it was a relatively small job, it was one with significant implications for the home’s structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
The Replacement Process
Replacing the rotting shingles began with carefully removing the damaged ones. This step required patience to avoid harming the surrounding siding. Once the old shingles were removed, I proceeded with cutting and fitting new cedar shingles to match the existing ones.
The key to a successful repair is a seamless blend between the new and old shingles. This meant carefully aligning the new pieces, ensuring consistent spacing, and securing them with stainless steel nails to prevent rust. To protect the repair, I applied a high-quality wood preservative and sealant, which will help the new shingles stand up to moisture and UV exposure.
